The anger didn't go away. It lost an address.
Every Japanese news story has exactly one comment section attached to it. Not a subreddit you joined — a single thread, ranked by votes. That is why the things algorithmic feeds hide are still sitting there, in the open.
Recent field notes
- Rakuten is giving every shop an AI manager. Nobody asked. An AI store manager in every Rakuten shop, 24/7, plus a "super agent" that books and pays for you. The most-upvoted comment was not excitement and not fear. It was "users don't actually want this." What Japan distrusts is not the AI — it is the company handing it out.
- The story named no nationality. The comment section filled the blank in anyway. Fake iPhones, a ¥100m consumption tax refund fraud, and an origin the tax office could not identify. The comments filled the gap — and the framing has flipped from "some foreigners commit crimes" to "only some foreigners are decent."
- He broke up the cat fight. The court found the human guilty. A Japanese cat owner stepped in to stop a fight — and got the accusing stare from both cats. Three comments in the thread, and everyday Japan is right there in them. First of the everyday notes.

- "Where's the funding?" — 7,805 Japanese comments ask why that is their problem An LDP lawmaker opposed a temporary food tax cut, warning the bill would fall on the next generation. The comment thread counted 7,805 — and the anger was not about the tax cut at all.
